Two Year Courses

Since September 2000 most advanced level qualifications for 16-19 year olds have been made up of units that are broadly equivalent in size:
  • AS level (one year) = 3 units
  • A GCE Applied, A level, BTEC Award or OCR National Certificates (2 years) = 6 units
  • A double award BTEC Certificate or OCR National Diploma (2 years) = 12 units

The two-year course is made up of subjects studied at Level 3. Students require 5 GCSE subjects at grade C or above ideally including Maths and or English to apply to study at this level or the previous successful completion of level 2 courses. Combinations of subjects totalling 18 to 24 units need to be chosen. It is expected that the majority of subjects studied in the first year of the Sixth Form will be followed through to full accreditation in the second year.
